Richard Lowenstein is a graduate of Victoria’s Swinburne Film & TV school (VCA) where his graduating film, EVICTIONS won the Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short Film, Melbourne Film Festival in 1980.
He went on to write, direct and produce the dramatic feature films STRIKEBOUND (1984), DOGS IN SPACE (1986), SAY A LITTLE PRAYER (1993) and HE DIED WITH A FELAFEL IN HIS HAND (2000), the feature documentaries AUTOLUMINESCENT: ROWLAND S. HOWARD (2011), WE’RE LIVIN’ ON DOG FOOD (2009), ECCO HOMO (2017) and the feature documentary MYSTIFY MICHAEL HUTCHENCE (2019).
He has produced, directed, and edited the live concert films, AUSTRALIAN MADE (1987) and LOVETOWN (1989) starring U2 & BB King, along with many award-winning music videos for the likes of INXS, U2, Pete Townshend and Hunters & Collectors, a multitude of commercials for clients such as Jim Beam, Nissan, Victorian Tourist Board, Herald-Sun, Kodak, & many others.
He produced Lynn-Maree Milburn’s feature documentary, IN BOB WE TRUST (2015) and two award-winning satirical TV series for SBSI, JOHN SAFRAN’S MUSIC JAMBOREE (2002) and JOHN SAFRAN vs GOD (2005).
He is a partner in the Melbourne-based production company GHOST with Director – Producer, Lynn-Maree Milburn and Cinematographer – Producer, Andrew de Groot, and the production company FANDANGO AUSTRALIA with producers Domenico Procacci, Rolf de Heer, Bryce Menzies & Sue Murray.
